Town considers cuts at library

While the bids for the new library building were rejected, Youth Services Librarian Dianna Manasse, left, and Library Specialist Alice Gottschalk will stay busy in the current building. The library will now be open on Mondays, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Town of Camp Verde is continuing to look for solutions to cut costs involved with the construction of a new library.

The project has been in the works for awhile, but recently hit a bit of a snag.

The Camp Verde Town Council rejected all bids for the construction of a new Camp Verde Town Library in June.

Seven bids had been received for the project, the lowest being around $3.1 million.

The initial plans had called for $1.8 million in financing for a 17,000-square-foot building with two stories.

Town Manager Russ Martin checked in with the council at its July 16 meeting to discuss the efforts that have been made toward cost reduction.

A group has met twice to look over the plans for the building, according to the architect, Joel Westervelt.

“We’ve been going through a list that’s relatively exhaustive,” Martin said.
