Four Weekend Warriors awarded Wrestling Prep scholarships

Published:

Thanks to scholarships awarded by the camp’s founder, four of Camp Verde High School’s biggest names in wrestling are representing the Cowboys at a national wrestling training camp in San Jose, Calif.

State champions Ryan Allred, Skyler Pike, Hayden Uhler and contender Matt Mejia are developing their skills through Friday, July 18, after being each awarded a $280 scholarship by Wrestling Prep founder Carolyn Wester to attend the fifth week of the nine-week series of drills in body leveraging as well as wrestling matches.

“Through many enriching experiences in wrestling, they have grown strong and courageous,” said Mario Chagolla Sr., CVHS assistant wrestling coach. “They have had great success in competition which will encourage and motivate them to pursue opportunities to build leadership skills and personal growth.”
