Town promotes local shopping

Published:

Clarkdale made an effort to get people to shop at local businesses last week in what it called “Independents Week.”

The town tried to promote several local independent merchants in an effort to help stimulate the local economy.

According to the announcement of the effort, local shopping “encourages support for the independent business people that help make our community unique and keep our local economy strong. When people spend money with local businesses, more of that money returns to the community.”

Beth Escobar, a senior planner with Clarkdale’s Community Development Department, said that this is the first time the town has tried to promote shopping locally in such a manner.

The move came after the town partnered with Local First Arizona earlier this year, Escobar said.
