Miller preps for 23rd Cornfest

Published:

It’s July in Camp Verde and while that brings the monsoon, it also means it’s time for sweet corn.

Camp Verde Cornfest organizer Nikki Miller is just hoping they don’t both come at the same time.

“I don’t want it to rain again,” Miller said. “I’m tired of organizing it and getting rained out.”

Miller works with Camp Verde Promotions, an organization that has worked for years to keep some town events going ever since the town itself quit organizing events.

While Miller can’t control the weather, she and a group of volunteers have planned for a lot of corn to be enjoyed along with entertainment at the annual Cornfest, set for Friday and Saturday, July 18 and 19, in the downtown park, behind the town office complex that used to be the old school.

Weather permitting, there will be hot air balloon rides on Saturday morning starting at 9 a.m.

The event is free to attend. The event runs from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.
