Valley celebrates Fourth of July

Published:

This Friday is the Fourth of July and as the United States of America celebrates its 238th birthday, communities around the Verde Valley will be doing their part to join in the party.

In Clarkdale, the festivities start at 7 a.m. for the annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July in the Clarkdale Town Park.

Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7400 will raise the colors followed by opening remarks from Mayor Doug Von Gausig.

The morning starts with a pancake breakfast organized by the Clarkdale Police Department and the Clarkdale Fire District. Cost for the breakfast is $5 for adults and $4 children under 12.

The event continues with fire truck rides and an ice cream social hosted by the Clarkdale Library Advisory board.

Later that afternoon is when the party gets going next door in Cottonwood, where the city is hosting the 15th Annual Fantastic Family Fourth of July starting at
4 p.m. at Cottonwood Kids Park in front of the Verde Valley Fairgrounds.

It wouldn’t be the Fourth of July without fireworks, which are set to begin at 8:45 p.m.

On the other side of the Verde Valley, people will also be celebrating. While there’s not a parade this year in Camp Verde, Cliff Castle Casino will be holding its own fireworks show around 9:15 p.m.
