Retail sales rise in city for May

Though the heavy construction of erecting the building is complete, construction crews work to finish the interior of Cottonwood’s new dispatch center on Monday, June 23. The building is funded through general fund taxes, and will dispatch for areas outside of Cottonwood, such as Jerome and Clarkdale.

Total transaction taxes collected across most of the Verde Valley were lower last month than during the same time last year.

The city of Cottonwood was the only exception.

The numbers were released last week by the Arizona Department of Revenue Office of Economic Research and Analysis.

The state revenue department keeps records each month of how much is collected from taxes generated across a wide range of economic sectors, from retail sales and hotel visits to manufacturing and construction.

For the month of May, the city of Cottonwood generated $1.12 million in transaction taxes collected across all sectors, compared with just under $988,000 in May 2013.
