Welshman Rhys Evans teaches soccer to kids at Butler Park

Published:

It may be called “football” where Rhys Evans is from — and in most of the rest of the world — but last week he was taking the “when in Rome” approach and calling it soccer.

Evans was hanging out in uniform, taking a break from the heat in the shade of the ramada at Butler Park in Camp Verde Thursday, June 5, while a few young boys lounged on a picnic table.

Evans is here in Camp Verde to help set up a soccer camp for children.

Evans hails from the city of Cardiff, Wales, in the United Kingdom but he’s been staying with a host family here in the Verde Valley.

“I just flew over from London on Saturday,” Evans said.

Evans works with an organization called Challenger Sports, a group that sets up soccer camps across the United States and Canada.
