Helping children conserve water

Cameron Contreras gets a drink of water from a fountain at Clarkdale-Jerome School on Saturday, June 7. While fountains turn off automatically, most faucets, showers and spigots do not. The Verde Natural Resource Conservation District is putting together a water conservation program aimed at children to teach them the importance of saving water and not letting a faucet run.

The Verde Natural Resource Conservation District is hoping that the Town of Camp Verde will provide some funding for a water conservation program aimed at kids.

Lynda Zanolli, a teacher who works with the district and directs its education center, said that the same program is already implemented in Cottonwood and Clarkdale.

“We’d like to see it here in Camp Verde, too, hopefully,” Zanolli said.

The program is aimed at school children in kindergarten through fourth grade.

Zanolli said the program was asking for just under $7,600 to help pay for two years of materials for the children to use.
