County water advisory group considers its future

The Yavapai County Water Advisory Committee is composed of representatives from the nine incorporated communities in Yavapai County who meet regularly to discuss water issues affecting growth and other issues, including the Verde River.

The committee was created in 1999, a time when Yavapai County District 2 Supervisor Tom Thurman said that studies were indicating that the county’s population could double over the next 10 years.

Here in the desert, there’s only so much water to go around and that much potential growth called for responsible water management.

There was growth, although it wasn’t enough that the population doubled.
