Charity ride bicyclist killed

The crushed bicycle of a 48-year-old Gilbert woman lies along the side of Cornville Road after being struck by a 2011 Chrysler van driven by a 90-year-old man from Cottonwood on Saturday, May 17. The woman was airlifted to Flagstaff Medical Center where she died around 6 p.m. The cyclist was participating in the first day of the BikeMS charity ride when she was struck. Two other cyclists on a tandem bicycle were also injured and taken to Verde Valley Medical Center.

A bicyclist participating in the BikeMS race was killed Saturday, May 17, following a traffic accident on Cornville Road.

Just before 12:30 p.m. Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a traffic accident involving a vehicle and three bicyclists on Cornville Road west of Beaverhead Flat Road.

One of the bike riders, 48-year-old Ethelyn Hartline of Gilbert, was airlifted to Flagstaff Medical Center in critical condition and died just before 6 p.m.
