State wants city to annex land

Cottonwood is considering annexing land currently outside city limits. The land is on State Route 260 between One Thousand Trails and the edge of Camp Verde, where the Verde Valley Motorplex lies.

The Arizona State Land Department recently came to Cottonwood asking the city to consider annexing land south of the city in order to help the construction of potential roundabouts along State Route 260.

The important corridor between Cottonwood, Interstate 17 and Camp Verde has been placed on the Arizona Department of Transportation’s five-year plan for an expansion to four lanes.

The Town of Camp Verde spearheaded a recent effort to show ADOT it was dedicated to seeing the road improved, working to get local communities on board with the plan.
Cottonwood helped pay for a lobbyist who helped convince the ADOT Board of Directors that the project was necessary.
