Group provides playground shade

Riverfront Park had new playground equipment installed several months ago, and now Verde Valley Leadership is trying to protect it. The goal is to erect a shade over the play structures to prevent color fade and sun weathering, as well as to keep the equipment from getting too hot, which could potentially burn children, like Joseph, who was enjoying the park with parents Trevor and Nancy Gottschalk on Thursday, April 17.

The Verde Valley Leadership program is looking for help from the community to make one playground a bit more fun for children to use.

Each class in the program runs for two years and seeks “individuals who demonstrate the skills and interest to work toward the best possible environment for families, businesses, nonprofit organizations, effective government and other systems that nurture strength within communities,” according to the program’s description.

Each class carries out a number of events and activities, skills workshops and opportunities for networking.
