By April 2, the Camp Verde High School softball team had more wins than it had all of last season.
It was no late April Fool’s joke for the Cowboys [18-6], ranked No. 7 in Division III, who have run away with Section IV this season and are already preparing for a possible second-round home game in the state softball tournament Tuesday, May 6.
“We’re ready right now,” said assistant softball coach Toni Harris. “It depends on whether we get that first-round bye or not, but I’m very confident. It’s not up to me; it’s up to the girls.”
And the four seniors this year on the CVHS softball team have a purpose, as they showed Senior Day, April 16, with a 15-0 run-ruling of Cortez High School in three innings.
“Speaking for all of us, we’ve all been together since, like, t-ball, so it’s great accomplishment,” infielder Caitlin Harris said. “It’s great to be where we’re at at this point. We’re kicking butt.”
