Softball team rolls into Vegas on hot streak

Published:

Prior to Mingus Union High School’s home softball game Monday, April 14, with Bradshaw Mountain High School, the Marauders [6-14] were as dead as an imploded casino.

A two-run fifth inning against the Bears and a 10-run sixth-inning explosion Tuesday, April 15, at Fountain Hills High School later, and MUHS is on a two-game winning streak, one seed away from a berth in the Division II state tournament after its first Section V victory.

If that isn’t a big enough roll for Las Vegas, where the Marauders will play beginning Thursday, April 17, at 1 p.m. in the Spring Jamboree softball tournament, head softball coach John Brown doesn’t want to know.

“Long, long day,” a tired Brown said April 15 after MUHS broke a 2-2 tie with 10 unanswered runs to run-rule Fountain Hills, 12-2. “We made a lot of lineup changes in the top of the sixth inning to change things up and it paid big.”
