One student was recognized for her battle with brain cancer while two students and another man were honored for saving another student from a burning car.

Cottonwood Police Chief Jody Fanning was joined by other officers in the gym Friday, April 4, to present Jerry Vojnic, Christian Despain and Phillip Cromer with awards for their act of heroism.

The incident happened March 17, Fanning said, when the car went off the road and crashed into a wash near the school.
