Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal visited Mingus Union High School in Cottonwood for a question-and-answer town hall on the evening of Tuesday, March 4, the second of two such gatherings in Yavapai County.
Huppenthal is currently touring to discuss education issues with parents, educators and community members on the heels of recent controversy stemming from his endorsement of empowerment scholarship accounts in a phone advertisement for the Goldwater Institute, a conservative public policy think tank named for the late U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater of Arizona.
The issue of the accounts and Huppenthal’s support for them was initially addressed by the superintendent before he took questions.
