After decades of service as a firefighter, Verde Valley Fire District Fire Marshal Mike Flummer is retiring this March.

“I’ve been doing this for 36 years,” Flummer said. “It’s just time to move on.”

Flummer started out in Bullhead City, where he worked as a firefighter for several years. Flummer used to be the manager of a Kentucky Fried Chicken in Bullhead City.

Flummer considers Arizona home, though he was a self-described army brat whose family moved where the government told them to.

It was 1976 and an employee for the local newspaper used to come around to try to sell advertising, Flummer said.
