Civil unions head to council debate

Camp Verde Town Councilman Bruce George is bringing the issue of civil unions to Camp Verde. While many think same-sex couples when the topic is brought up, George said this will be of great benefit to older unmarried couples, granting them visitation rights should they get sick. The other four municipalities in the Verde Valley have all passed civil union ordinances.

Camp Verde will be discussing the possibility of recognizing civil unions at the next meeting of the Town Council.

While it’s unlikely any action will be taken following the initial discussion, if eventually approved, Camp Verde would be the seventh town in Arizona to recognize civil unions.

Bisbee, Tucson, Jerome, Sedona, Cottonwood and Clarkdale have already passed similar measures.
