Mingus Union High School wrestling is getting closer to fielding a complete, and completely healthy team — but they’re not there just yet.

The Marauders lost a home dual meet 60-22 to Chino Valley High School, Wednesday, Dec. 18, but half of the Cougars’ points were the result of forfeits — matches in which the Marauders had no wrestler to compete in a weight class. The Mingus wrestlers did, however, beat the Division IV Mayer Wildcats wrestling team 53-12 during the same meet.

Marauders head coach Tim McKeever said that some of the forfeits were due to injury, while others were due to wrestlers not certifying at the right weight.

“We should be full after the first of the year;  we have guys that will make the weights,” McKeever said. “We also have a couple weights that we just don’t have anybody for that spot yet, so we’ve got to go try to recruit those.”
