A Roman legion based out of Cottonwood was smashed on the battlefield last week.
The legion fought with the legendary discipline and tactics that made the Roman army the most powerful military in the ancient world, but they were ultimately no match for the sheer ferocity of the attack of the barbarian horde.
The stunning defeat for the forces of once-mighty Rome has led to some publicly questioning whether the empire can even be considered a regional superpower here in the American Southwest.
