Looking ahead after override win

Local school districts are continuing to enjoy the support of the voters after budget overrides were approved on the ballot earlier this month.

The state allows school districts to ask for a budget override, meaning the schools can tax property owners in the district beyond their set spending limits.

The Mingus Union High School District has been operating on a 10 percent budget override since 1985, MUHSD Superintendent Paul Tighe said.

The Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District has been doing so since 1993.
