The Cottonwood City Council renewed its commitment to fair housing last week, a requirement if it wants to continue legally using a federal grant for work already underway on 10th Street.
The work involves road and sidewalk improvements, including improvements to drainage and water delivery.
The project has focused on 10th Street between Mingus Avenue and Main Street. The road is often the site of moderate pedestrian traffic, particularly among school children.
The work is being funded through a $260,000 Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Since the 1970s, the agency has handed out billions of dollars of such grants to local governments and municipalities for projects that will benefit areas lived in by predominantly low- to mid-income levels.
