Vote for new station fails

A proposed fire station for the Amante neighborhood in Verde Santa Fe won’t be built after neighborhood rules failed to support the proposal.

The neighborhood homeowners association, representing the few hundred homes near Cornville, had been in discussions with the Verde Valley Fire District for several months. The idea was to put a new fire station in the area where many relatively new houses have been built over the past decade or so.

The fire station was something that Jerry Madero said that, as vice president of the Amante neighborhood association, he felt the people in the neighborhood wanted. But the rules regulating its construction created an almost insurmountable obstacle.
