??The Verde Valley hosted the Little League Tournament of Champions on Friday through Sunday, June 7 to 9, and even though Prescott Valley prevailed on almost all counts, teams of the Verde Valley Little League made good showings.

After a 15-1 regular season finish, the Verde Valley Little League Majors team, the A’s, made it to the semifinals after beating Bagdad 10-0 and Dewey-Humboldt 7-3 in the first and second rounds.

Then they faced Prescott Valley in the game that would put them in the finals, but lost 3-1.

“The boys played well. The thing that hurt us most in the game was basically we beat ourselves,” the A’s Head Coach Chris Taylor said. “[Prescott Valley’s] runs weren’t earned runs, they beat us on errors, so that was a downer on that one.

“But they did a good job. I’m happy with how they played all year. I saw a big improvement in fielding, hitting and working together as a team in each of the boys.”
