Mario Chagnolla is a humble man. He puts all his focus on youth wrestlers and doesn’t like recognition. When asked about himself, he turns the conversation to the wrestlers every time.
But when someone, like Chagnolla, makes such a huge impact on a community, it doesn’t go unnoticed.
Chagnolla, the head wrestling coach at Camp Verde High School, won the Safeco Community Hero Award and a $5,000 donation to The Chagolla Foundation.
He was one of 16 people nationwide chosen for the award after being nominated by Lori Paul, an insurance agent from Apache Junction, and mother of a wrestler.
“I was impressed because I was nominated from an outsider from Apache Junction who attended the Weekend Wars and took note of the program,” Chagnolla said.
