The Cottonwood City Council has approved the rezoning of land owned by the Mingus Union High School District, opening the way for denser residential development on the site.
The land, nearly 15 acres in size, sits at the southwest corner of Fir Street and Camino Real. It was given to the school district in 1971 by the Mongini family, according to Michael Gardner, a senior planner with Casa Verde Consulting. The same family also gave most of the land to the district that the high school stands on today. Gardner’s firm is representing the school district for the zoning change request.
“Commonly, a property like this would be sold on the open market, generally to a developer or group that would purchase the property at a low price … to gain maximum benefit on their investment,” Gardner wrote.
