Reay signs to compete at college in track and cross-country

Published:

Another Camp Verde athlete has signed with Arizona Christian University, only this one has signed for one sport he has never competed in.

Justin Reay, a three-sport Camp Verde High School senior, signed his National Letter of Intent to compete in both track and field and cross-country for the Firestorm, making him the third athlete from the Verde Valley to commit to the university.

While Reay is known for his success on the track, he has never ran in a single cross-country race.

The Arizona Christian University track and field program will be in its inaugural year during the 2014 season and will only feature the 400-, 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter events. In order to compete in the spring, Reay will have to compete on the cross-country team in the fall.

“I’m very excited, but a little intimidated,” Reay said. “I haven’t run cross-country and that will start in August. At the same time though, I’m excited to be at that [higher] level of running. I’m excited to see how good I can be and how far I can push myself.”
