Mingus relay teams dominate regional track meet

The Mingus Union High School track and field teams competed at a high level in the regional championship meet and now look to perform even better in the state meet.

The Marauders girls’ team won the Yavapai County Track and Field Championship meet Friday, April 26, at Bradshaw Mountain High School in Prescott Valley with a team score of 137. The Sedona Red Rock Scorpions finished second, just three points behind, and Bradshaw Mountain had 118 points, finishing third.

Prescott won the boys’ team competition with 178 points, followed by Sedona with 131 points. The Mingus Union boys’ team was on the Scorpions’ heels, finishing third with 129 points.

“A lot of the Mingus athletes had great performances,” MUHS Track and Field Head Coach Yancey DeVore said. “The team has been improving every meet. We are seeing a lot of personal bests, which is a good thing. Seeing the better competition pushes our athletes to get better.”

The Marauders’ relay teams dominated the meet.
