Softball takes tough loss to Scorpions

The Camp Verde Cowboys softball team [11-10-1] lost to the Sedona Red Rock Scorpions [4-7], 9-8 on Friday, April 12, at Sedona Red Rock High School in front of a big crowd. The Cowboys had the lead until the Scorpions’ fifth-inning seven-run burst, and rallied back to within one run with a runner in scoring position, but the Scorpions ended the game with a strikeout.

“To put it plainly like my girls said, we came in a little overconfident. Even as a coach I was pretty confident, Camp Verde Head Coach Debbi Miller said. “And they just really started hitting the ball, which I didn’t really expect that.

“I knew they would hit, but from all of the stats that I looked at, I didn’t think they’d hit it like they did. That kind of rattled us a bit.”

The Cowboys took the lead early with back-to-back runs scored by Paige Church and Sharli Macdonald in the first inning. Church scored another run on a wild pitch that put the Cowboys up 3-0 in the middle of the third inning.
