Athletes compete against tough opponents

Published:

The Mingus Union High School track and field athletes most recently competed in two meets against higher levels of competition, and fared well, which will only help them prepare for state.

The sprinters and fielders competed in the Peoria Invitational at Peoria High School while the long-distance runners competed in the Scottsdale Distance Classic at Saguaro High School on March 28.

The Peoria Invitational hosted four Division III schools, nine Division II schools and three Division I schools.

While the Marauders didn’t place as high as usual due to the much tougher Division I and II competition, most of the sprinters, fielders and distance runners either made the state qualifying mark or provisional mark in their events. Athletes who achieve provisional times and distances may also compete in the state meet if not enough athletes achieve state qualifying standards in a particular event.
