Marauders maul Scorpions on home turf

After beating the Sedona Red Rock Scorpions 10-0 in the first game of the 2013 season, the Mingus Union Marauders [13-5-1] beat the Scorpions [1-7] Tuesday, March 2, on Sedona Red Rock’s home turf, 20-4, with bursts in the second and fifth innings.

Senior Francisco Pacheco scored the first run in the top of the first inning, after Shane Trimble singled and a throwing error to first base allowed Pacheco to run home.

With junior Austin Zwart pitching for the Marauders, Mingus Union got the first three Sedona batters out quickly with a strikeout and fly-outs to second baseman Trimble and center fielder Andrew Garcia.

The Marauders’ bats then caught fire. Jesse Morones batted in Zwart with a grounder to left field. Garcia batted in Chris Gonzales with a single, and Morones scored on a wild pitch right after that. Then Trimble knocked in Andres Zorrilla.
