Consultants update council on SR 260

Published:

The Town of Camp Verde’s effort to see State Route 260 widened into four lanes all the way to Cottonwood apparently has some wheels.

The Camp Verde Town Council directed the town’s staff last October to reach out to other local communities to get them on board with the plan. The town also hired a consulting firm to help push the initiative forward. The idea was to rally surrounding communities in an effort to present a unified voice from the Verde Valley to the Arizona Department of Transportation to show the agency everyone is committed to the project.

An effort was made several years ago to build a four-lane divided highway between Cottonwood and Camp Verde with safety being foremost among the issues driving the cause. That effort fell apart when the communities and landowners involved couldn’t reach a consensus agreement.
