Mingus softball team sets high goals for season

The Marauders will be the ones to watch this season on the softball field.

Already 2-0 after an impressive double header, the Mingus Union High School softball girls may be able to power hit their way through their schedule and make it a couple steps further in the state playoff tournament, thanks to an all-returning lineup of multiple power hitters and a new energetic coach.

The Marauders started the 2013 season off with a bang, beating the Mayer Wildcats 33-0 and 23-0 in a double header Monday, Feb. 25, at MUHS. Mayer High School is in a division below the Marauders, but it doesn’t hurt to start the season with a big confidence boost and a testament of potential.

Mingus has all nine starting players returning from a team that went 19-11 a year ago with a second-round state playoff appearance. The six seniors and six juniors on the roster give the team the advantage of experience and chemistry.
