Members of the Sedona Car Club jump at the call of, “road trip.” A road trip to tour around the Verde Valley, the state or the Southwest is one of the favorite activities of the club’s members who are auto enthusiasts. The purpose is to promote, preserve and maintain motor vehicles of special interest or historical value. However, membership is open to anyone, whether they own a special vehicle or not.
“Our road trips are from part of a day to overnight to locations of interest,” said Larry Currie, president of the car club. “Typically it’s day trips around here, but we’ll go to New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and California.”
Today, the car club has 57 members, which represents about 109 people, said Currie, who owns a white 1973 Jaguar XKE. Currie and his wife Vicki bought the car after Vicki saw it at a swap meet in California but passed on buying at that time. Then she saw an ad in the newspaper for a Jaguar XKE, and the couple went to look at it. It was the same car, so they bought it.
