Body found after Cottonwood storage shed fire

The body of an unidentified victim was discovered in a storage structure involved in an early morning fire.

At 4:52 Wednesday morning, Jan. 9, the Cottonwood Police Department received a 911 call of a fire at medical practice located at 203 S. Candy Lane, Suite 13A. The call was forwarded to the Cottonwood Fire Department who responded and extinguished the fire.

After extinguishing the fire, an unidentified body was discovered in the storage structure. CPD detectives were called out to the scene.

CPD and CFD determined that the point of origin for the fire was in the storage structure attached to the outside of the involved building. Investigators have not yet determined the exact cause of the fire. The office building sustained moderate fire damage to the attic area and extensive smoke damage throughout.

The identity of the victim is not yet known. The body was transported to the Yavapai County Medical Examiner’s Office for to determine identity and cause of death.
