The Cowboys wrestlers continue to prove just how big of a powerhouse Camp Verde High School is on the mat.
Camp Verde High School hosted the 19th annual Verde Duals tournament on Dec. 7 and 8, and the Cowboys more than dominated the event.
Camp Verde placed first overall with 740.5 points followed by Marana Mountain View with 526 points, Chino Valley with 441 points, Peoria with 422 points, Verrado with 400 points and Empire with 392 points.
“The tournament was an impressive opening for the aggressive Cowboy wrestling team,” said Bob Weir, CVHS wrestling head coach. “The team gave everything they had and came out of the tournament for the 13th year in a row as the tournament champions.”
The Cowboys also went 7-0 in the dual matches averaging 76 points while the most points their opponents scored was six.
The Cowboys had 129 wins and 28 losses with 71 pins total for the tournament.
“The returning wrestlers and new wrestlers for the Cowboys continue to have a new attitude to bring back the respect of Camp Verde wrestling on the mat and off,” Weir said.
