He was preceded in death by his brother Michael Garfunkel.
He is survived by his brother Thomas Garfunkel of Kentucky; sisters Kathryn Garfunkel of Virginia, Barbara McGann of Virginia and Elizabeth Garfunkel of North Carolina; and father Joseph Garfunkel of North Carolina.
