A community garden at Riverfront Park will now primarily be operated by the city of Cottonwood.
The City Council approved the garden in November 2008 with the understanding that it would be maintained by Community Gardens LLC.
Over the years since its approval, the garden has been kept up by several members of the community and has been used by residents and businesses alike.
The garden, about one acre in size, has produced quite a lot of food since its creation.
Gardener Bobbie Jo Gooslin has been instrumental at the garden, teaching classes and overseeing registrations.
“Ms. Gooslin has donated hundreds of hours of her personal time and funds to keep the garden productive,” according to a report from the Cottonwood City Clerk’s Office. “She has planted, picked and distributed thousands of pounds of produce and donated it to the local food banks, senior center and Old Town Mission.”
Gooslin and a friend, Irene Baxter, have also helped the city with Let’s Move projects, events designed to help people exercise and live healthier, along with teaching children to plant container gardens during National Night Out events.
