Camp Verde loses season’s first match to Mingus

Published:

The Cowboys of the Camp Verde High School volleyball team had to surrender the victory over in three sets to their rival, but not without giving them a gun-slinging fight.

In their season opener on Tuesday, Aug. 29, the Cowboys lost the overall match to the Mingus Union High School Marauders. On their home court, the Marauders denied the Cowboys one set win.

CVHS volleyball Head Coach Darcy Evans was proud of her players’ performance but knows there are things they need to focus on.

“I think we did well for the first game,” Evans said. “I mean, there’s obviously a lot of things we need to work on, focus on to come together as a team.”

In the first set, the Cowboys played strong defense with good diving saves. The Marauders held the lead throughout the entire set and ultimately dominated the court with a 25-18 score to take the lead of the best-of-five series.
