Thirteen candidates vie for three open seats on the Yavapai-Apache Nation Tribal Council.
The election is set for Saturday, Sept. 15, according to the Nation’s elections office.
Three polling sites will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.: in Camp Verde at the Utility Authority, formerly the tribal housing building; in Clarkdale at the community building; and on the Middle Verde reservation at the social services building.
The candidates include Steven Doungeva, Mamie Fox, Billy Garner, Lorna Hazelwood, Robin Hazelwood, Priscilla Lewis, Monica Marquez, Leimomi Montijo, Darlene Rubio, Frederick Sanchez, Maureen Sanchez, Henry Smith and Carolyn Williams.
Doungeva is the only incumbent seeking to retain his seat in the nine-member governing body.
Councilwoman Linda Evans will be leaving her seat, as she has already served two terms, the limit imposed on council members, said Fran Chavez, public relations manager for the Yavapai-Apache Nation.
Buddy Rocha Sr., who has served since 2009, is also not seeking another term, Chavez said.
