Arts groups receive funding from state commission

Published:

A few groups and organizations around the Verde Valley were among several from across the state to receive grants this year from the Arizona Commission on the Arts.

The commission, a state agency, announced 267 recipients last week in nearly every corner of Arizona.

The money, totaling more than $1.5 million, is being funded through the Arizona Arts Trust Fund and the National Endowment for the Arts.

“Grants from the arts commission challenge arts and culture organizations to serve the citizens of Arizona, through the delivery of arts experiences to residents and visitors of all ages,” stated commission Executive Director Robert Booker, in announcing the grant awards last week. “The services these organizations and schools provide are valuable to the citizens of our state, and the modest but critical investment in our nonprofit arts industry helps revitalize communities, brings visitors, and generates revenue for other sectors.”

Locally, the money is being divided between groups in Cottonwood, Camp Verde and Sedona.
