Mingus Marauders Football: Returning seniors hope to change last year’s outcome

The laces are tied, the pads are on and the helmets are polished. The boys of fall are ready for a new season on the gridiron.

Mingus Union High School football is looking to rebuild its winning reputation this season after having what it proclaimed was a down year in 2011. The team finished 4-6 without a playoff appearance.

“Football has always had tremendous success,” said Mark Owens, MUHS athletic director. “Last year wasn’t the year Coach Young had envisioned. It was a learning experience for the team.”

Head Coach Bob Young said that having a disappointing 2011 year was a combination of a number of things, particularly a poor off-season.

As a result, the players and coaches have buckled down this off-season. After working hard in the weight room, dominating in seven-on-seven competitions in Arizona and California and attending a football camp, known as “hell week” among the players, at Concordia University in Irvine, Calif., the team will be bigger, faster and stronger.
