Soccer’s summer nights may lead to fall playoffs

Published:

Summer nights in Camp Verde can be quiet and uneventful, but not for soccer players.

Camp Verde High School boys soccer coach, David Miller, has open field every Wednesday and Friday evenings during the summer. And it is popular among Camp Verde’s youth.

“It’s open to anybody, but we always have boys and girls from the high school team, alumni and young middle-schoolers,” Miller said. “There are usually around 30 kids each night.”

Some are even there before the 6 p.m. scheduled time.

“I have some really dedicated players,” Miller said.

Once they get to the field, the players initiate practicing their dribbling, shooting and drills while Miller greets and talks with everybody. Then a pickup game begins between the high school boys and the girls, alumni and middle-schoolers that lasts until 7:30 p.m.
