Summer wrestling spawns new breed of grapplers

Published:

Camp Verde High School summer wrestling team, New Breed, is making a name for itself this summer.

The team just returned from the 2012 Arbor View Aggie Summer Duals in Las Vegas defeating some of the top teams in Nevada, California and Arizona.

“I was very impressed with the kids,” CVHS wrestling coach Bob Weir said. “I’ve coached these kids for a long time, and they did an outstanding job at this tournament against tough competition.”

The wrestlers earned a 11-0 dual record, making them one of just two teams to leave the tournament undefeated. The most exciting match for CVHS was when the team defeated the four-time reigning California state champions, Poway.

“That was a great feeling,” Weir said.
