The Camp Verde Town Council bypassed the lowest bidder for an improvement project on Hollamon Street after concerns arose about complaints made about the contractor.
The Town Council instead voted 5-0 to go with a locally based contractor who had the second-lowest bid.
The town has been awarded a federal Community Development Block Grant through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, funds awarded in cycles to help finance projects that benefit low- to moderate-income areas.
The Hollamon Street project includes adding a sidewalk and gutter along the fairly heavily traveled roadway, used by motor vehicles and pedestrians.
The council awarded the bid to McDonald Brothers Construction of Camp Verde, which bid just under $300,000.
