Four die in helicopter crash near Camp Verde

Four people were killed in a helicopter crash south of Camp Verde on Saturday, June 30.

A six-seat, single Aerospatiale AS350 helicopter, with a pilot and three passengers, had departed from Scottsdale around 8 a.m. Saturday, according to Ian Gregor, the Federal Aviation Administration’s Western-Pacific Region communications manager.

The aircraft was reported overdue when it failed to arrive in Sedona, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office. Search crews with the Civil Air Patrol began looking for the aircraft later in the day.

Around 8:45 a.m. Sunday, July 1, a private pilot reported seeing aircraft wreckage in the Verde River about 6 miles south of Camp Verde.
