?Voters in the Camp Verde Unified School District will be asked whether or not they support a 5 percent override for the district’s budget on the November ballot.
Override elections are when a school district goes to the public for a certain percentage increase in their budget, a budget where without an override spending is constrained by state law. The extra money comes from an increase in property taxes.
Camp Verde voters have fairly regularly rejected tax increases in recent years when the question is put on the ballot.
With a few years of budget cuts from the state and federal levels having forced the district to tighten its belt and no end in sight at least for the upcoming fiscal budget year, the school board voted 3-1 to turn directly to the voters at a special meeting Thursday, June 21.
Board member Judy Gilbert voted against the measure, repeating opposition offered the previous week.
