Camp Verde girls stomp Bagdad

The Camp Verde Minors All-Stars softball team [ages 9 to 10] took advantage of its first-round bye with a convincing 22-8 victory over the Bagdad All-Stars this past weekend.

“The girls played a great game. We are a very strong hitting team, and it showed,” Camp Verde Head Coach Carrie Durnez said.

Even though receiving a first-round bye, Camp Verde didn’t look sluggish at all Saturday, June 23. The District 10 Arizona Little League Minors All-Stars Softball Tournament began under the lights Friday, June 22, at Butler Park.

On Saturday against Bagdad, Jordyn Cowsert, 9, toed the mound for Camp Verde looking to shut down Bagdad’s high-powered offensive attack and did so, pitching a complete game, going five innings while striking out eight.
