The Yavapai County Emergency Management Office is considering creating an Emergency Operations Center in the Verde Valley.
The new center will complement the current center in Prescott, giving it a presence closer to Verde Valley emergencies and serving as backup to the Prescott center.
An emergency center provides coordination of efforts between local responders, and state and federal authorities, in the case of a countywide emergency or natural disaster, such as a wildfire or flood.
Cottonwood Fire Department Fire Chief Mike Kuykendall said a Yavapai County Center in the Verde Valley could provide additional coverage for the city of Cottonwood’s center, which is set up in a multipurpose room in the Public Safety Building when needed, and it would be available if an event in the city, such as a fire, spreads out into the county.
