Groups hope to halt raids of parks’ budgets

Published:

Various groups and individuals around the state are pushing to get a measure on the ballot this November that would prevent the Arizona State Legislature from taking money from the Arizona State Parks budget.

Organizers are out and about right now trying to collect the signatures needed to get the Arizona Natural Resources Protection Act before voters later this year.

The act, brainstormed a few months ago, is being promoted by groups like the Arizona State Parks Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded to support and assist the state park system.

The act was created in response to the Legislature slashing the parks’ budget by millions of dollars over the past few years in an effort to deal with other problems throughout the state budget.
